About Joan Bullock

I was around five years old, playing outside my house in Alabama, when an old black woman stopped to speak with me. Before she left, she pressed a penny into my hand and told me I was very smart—that someday, I would be a teacher.

I ran into the house, upset.

I didn’t want to be a teacher. I dreamed of becoming the president of my own company. When I told my mother this, she gently explained the reality of growing up in the segregated South: opportunities for black people were limited. Those who could go to college became educators or social workers—that was the highest aspiration available.

I didn’t accept that. I wanted more.

Running Toward Success

Determined to create my own opportunities, I pursued relentless ambition. I earned a law degree and then an MBA. I became a licensed attorney and CPA, built a career as a law professor, and eventually served as president and dean of one law school, followed by another.

I achieved everything I thought I wanted: titles, accomplishments, and accolades. But for all my success, something was still missing.

Running from My Calling

What I didn’t realize at the time was that, for decades, I had been running from my true calling—the deeper meaning behind that old woman’s words. Teaching law wasn’t all I was made to do. My unction was much deeper: I was made to teach God’s Word.

I see God’s truth active in everyday life. It’s in our relationships, work, time, money, decisions, and purpose. And yet, too often, we miss it. When we miss it, we cause ourselves unnecessary pain—not because God is distant, but because we fail to recognize what’s already in front of us.

Why Sage Evolution was Born

Sage Evolution was created to help believers carry their faith beyond Sunday worship. Too many of us know of God but struggle to know Him deeply. When we fail to know the God who is love, we also struggle to love ourselves rightly—and to love others well. This disconnection creates fragmentation in our daily lives, manifesting as misaligned priorities in our work, financial disorder, broken relationships, and disunity within our churches.

Through short-form videos, practical ebooks, and deeper teachings, Sage Evolution equips believers to live Scripture—not just know it. Knowledge tells you what God has said. Wisdom teaches you how to apply it. Wisdom isn’t achieved in a moment; it’s a process developed over a lifetime—a spiritual evolution.

A Full Circle Moment

That old woman saw something in me before I could see it myself. It took me decades to understand. Sage Evolution exists because I finally stopped running and said yes to what God intended for me all along.

God is good—and He calls us to be more than we could ever imagine.
